Description

Early San Francisco Lincoln Wheat Cents present attribution challenges that WRPM-004 illustrates clearly. Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 1910-S 1c WRPM-004, this repunched mintmark variety shows an S/S Tilted configuration — the primary S mintmark leans clockwise relative to its initial placement, indicating the punch was rotated between impressions. The positioning is similar to WRPM-003, but the clockwise tilt of the primary S distinguishes the two varieties. A significant caveat accompanies this entry: only circulated specimens have been examined, and no die markers were visible on the examined coin. Better examples in higher grades are needed to fully document the die's characteristics. This limitation is common for early Lincoln Cent RPMs, where surviving populations skew heavily toward well-circulated grades that may obscure finer details. The 1910-S had a mintage of 6,045,000, the second year of San Francisco cent production under the Lincoln design.
