RCD-1c-1909-06R Retained Cud

Description

Among the most compelling multi-attribution varieties in Lincoln Cent collecting, this retained cud appears on the famous 1909 Lincoln VDB Wheat Cent — the first year of Brenner's Lincoln portrait with his initials prominently displayed on the reverse. The cross-reference to Obverse DDO-001 (Fivaz-Stanton FS-101) means this die also carries the doubled die obverse variety, making it a dual-attribution piece: retained cud plus doubled die obverse on a first-year VDB cent. The "R" suffix indicates the retained cud appears on the reverse. A retained cud forms when a section of the die rim fractures but remains partially attached rather than falling away, producing a raised distorted area. RCD-1c-1909-06R is the sixth documented retained cud for this date, cataloged in the Cuds on Coins reference system.
