1899-O VAM-25B
Error
Description
Discovered in 2015 and formerly designated VAM-37A before renumbering, this New Orleans Morgan Dollar is cataloged as VAM-25B, classified III2 14, C3o (Doubled Ear, O Doubled Top Inside, Die Break E) (181). The variety combines multiple features across both sides. The obverse displays doubling on Liberty's ear, while the reverse O mint mark shows doubling at the top inside of the letter. A heavy die crack runs at the top of STATES OF, accompanied by a slight displaced field break above the letter E, indicating that the die crack had progressed to the point where the metal began to shift in the area above E. Die Pair In Sequence values are C3/B45RE. The renumbering from VAM-37A reflects the catalog's ongoing reorganization as varieties are grouped and sequenced more logically. The combination of ear doubling, mint mark doubling, and a die crack with displacement makes this a multi-feature variety that offers several independent diagnostic points for collectors seeking to confirm attribution.
