1899 Indian Head Cent Repunched Date FS-303 Snow-9

Description

This 1899 Indian Head cent displays a Repunched Date variety designated FS-303 (Snow-9). The original date was punched at a slant, showing part of the original 1 punched below the final 1 and the first 9 punched above the final 9 position. This slanted repunching is unusual compared to the more common directional shifts (east, north, south) seen on other repunched date varieties, suggesting the date logotype was tilted when first applied to the die. The contrasting high and low remnants make this one of the more visually distinctive repunched dates for the year.
