Error
Description
VAM-9B on the 1897-S Morgan Dollar has been eliminated and reassigned as VAM-13A; all examples bearing these die characteristics should be attributed under that designation. The original discovery credit belongs to Laurence Galbraith, documented July 2006, classified III26 · C3a, entry 187. The defining reverse feature is a small die break at the base of the second leaf cluster from the top of the left wreath — retained under VAM-13A. Note that VAM-9A was also reclassified as VAM-13 effective January 2011. The sequential reclassification of both 9A and 9B reflects a reconciliation of overlapping die-pair assignments. The 1897-S Morgan Dollar is a 90% silver San Francisco Mint issue.
