1893 Indian Head Cent Die Clash (Strong — C/Wreath/Portrait)

Description

This 1893 Indian Head Cent displays an unusually strong and extensive die clash on both faces. On the obverse, the letter C and the left wreath from the reverse design are impressed into the field, with a substantial portion of the right wreath transferred through the feathered headdress and below Liberty. On the reverse, the full front of Liberty's portrait has been transferred onto the die surface, creating a ghost impression of the portrait within the reverse design. Crucially, this clash originates from a different die pair than the two previously cataloged 1893 die clashes (TDC-1C-1893-01 and TDC-1C-1893-02). The wreath penetration through the feather area on the obverse and the full portrait transfer on the reverse exceed the typical extent seen on the already-cataloged 1893 pairs, marking this as a more complete and vigorous clash event. Indian Head Cents were struck from 1859 to 1909 in a bronze alloy (copper-tin-zinc), and the reverse wreath design incorporates oak and laurel elements surrounding ONE CENT. At 130 years old, this coin's preservation of clear clash evidence on both sides reflects the exceptional strength of the original clash contact.
