Description

Originally cataloged as VAM-1A with the designation "Double Clashed Obverse n," this 1892-CC Morgan Dollar variety was delisted on April 27, 2017 after being determined to be the same die marriage as VAM-8A. The variety's original description noted a clashed die with a faint partial incuse double "n" of "In" visible next to Liberty's neck on the obverse — classified as III21 - C3a. Delisting is a normal part of the VAM classification process, occurring when researchers determine that a separately cataloged variety actually represents the same die marriage as an existing listing, often viewed from a different die state or under different examination conditions. The 1892-CC Morgan Dollar, struck at the Carson City Mint, was among the final CC-minted Morgan Dollars before the facility ceased operations in 1893. Collectors seeking this die marriage should reference VAM-8A, which remains the active listing for this particular clashed die pairing.
