1892-CC VAM-12A
Error
Description
Pat Mullen discovered this Carson City Morgan dollar in 2011, and it holds WOW! Morgan VAM status. Classified 12A III27 with a C3e reverse, designated Doubled Profile and Left Stars, Dropped C, Die Field Break F, the reverse showcases advanced die deterioration. A radial die crack runs from the rim above the F in OF down through the letter to the wing edge, with a small break at the top inside of F. A second radial crack extends from the rim through the A in DOLLAR to the wreath and right tail feather, accompanied by tiny die chips and very slight displaced field. The combination of multiple radial cracks, displaced metal, and die chips indicates a die approaching catastrophic failure. Carson City Morgan dollars carry inherent collector appeal due to limited production runs, and the dramatic reverse breakdown elevates VAM-12A to special status among CC variety collectors. 12A III27 – C3e (Doubled Profile & Left Stars, Dropped C, Die Field Break F) (177) Reverse C3e – Radial die crack from rim above F in OF down thru t to wing edge, with small die break at top inside of F.
