Description
1888-O VAM-15 O/O and Double Die Reverse Discovered by Steve Sabella, November 1980. This coin is a Hot 50 Morgan VAM. 15 III2 1 C3g (O/O Low, Doubled Legend) (181) Reverse C3g - III O mint mark doubled well below the bottom outside. Doubled right wreath and eagle's left wing edge towards rim. F-AMERICA-AR, right star and TRUST strongly doubled towards rim. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # The [[1888-O VAM-15 has a strongly re-punched mint mark w/ the remains of an underlying O appearing below & slightly right of the strong mint mark. This VAM appears to be quite rare & tough to find in high grades. # Beware of [[1888-O VAM-12. It is an "evil mimic" of the [[1888-O VAM-15 and has a doubled reverse, but not as strong. It also has a repunched O, but not exactly the same.
