Description
1883-O VAM-4 O Over O O/O Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. 4(revised) III2 3 · C3c (O/O Down, Doubled 18-3) (181) Obverse III2 3– Doubled 18-3 in date. 1 doubled at top left and right plus slightly at bottom of lower crossbar. Left 8 slightly doubled at top inside of upper loop. Right 8 set slightly high. 3 slightly doubled at bottom inside. Shallow date from over polished die with raised metal below 18 near denticles. Reverse C3c– II O mint mark re-punched with original showing as curved line at top inside and as curved bars at bottom outside left and right sides. Heavy polishing lines in middle leaves of second, fourth and fifth clusters from top of left wreath. Some specimens show denticle impressions below DOLLAR or above RIBUS on obverse from coin ejection. DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: Comments: # [[1883-O VAM-4 O Over O. This strongly repunched mintmark can be found w/ beautiful DMPL surfaces. The remains of an O can be seen set low below the strong O mark. The underlying O can also be seen inside the O.
