Description
1880-S VAM-20 Tripled 0, S/S Lower Inside, Die Chip Wing Discovered by Bill Fivaz, October 1973. Revised 2004 20(revised) III2 13 · C3z (Tripled 0, S/S Lower Inside, Die Chip Wing) ( ? ) Obverse III2 13 – I is doubled slightly below upper serif and first 8 is doubled slightly at top of upper loop opening. Second 8 doubled at lower left outside of upper loop. 0 is tripled strongly on lower left outside and is raised well above the surface of the original 0. The 0 is also doubled at very bottom left inside of the opening. Reverse C3z – Medium IV S mint mark re-punched with doubling at top inside of lower loop and possible faint horizontal line in middle of upper loop. Eagle’s right wing has die chip near tip of wreath on later die states. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This obverse shared with 1880-S VAM-20 & 1880-S VAM-50 (IF there really is a 1880-S VAM-50). This reverse shared with 1880-S VAM-20 & 1880-S VAM-30. EDS 1880-S 1880-S VAM-20 do not have a die chip on the eagle's wing.
