Description

This listing represents the WDDO-010 obverse paired with the Reverse of 1879 tail feather arrangement, distinguishing it from the same obverse die paired with the Reverse of 1878. The doubling on the reverse encompasses USA, IN GOD WE TRUST, the eagle's beak, right wing feathers, the wreath, and the left star, with lighter spreading on ONE DOLLAR and the right star. The obverse is cross-referenced as WDDO-001, with a die gouge just below the wheat kernels above LI in LIBERTY serving as a key marker. Parallel die scratches running through the O of ONE and to the left of O characterize the reverse, along with scratches between the olive branch leaves and the left side of the wreath. The reverse die carries its own doubled die designation as WDDR-011, and the variety is further cross-referenced as CONECA 9-R-III and VAM 6. Gary Alender submitted this attribution, and the Wexler Team noted that the pictured specimen showed strong machine doubling across much of the obverse, with split serifs providing the clearest evidence of genuine hub doubling. Cataloged as Wexler Variety ID 1878 $1 WDDO-010.
