1873 Indian Head Cent (Closed 3) Doubled Die Obverse FS-102 Snow-2
Error
Description
This 1873 Indian Head cent with the Closed 3 date style displays a Doubled Die Obverse designated FS-102, Snow-2. Doubling is visible on the TY in LIBERTY on the headdress, with mechanical doubling also seen on other letters and feathers. This is a different variety from the famous 1873 Doubled Die Obverse FS-101 (Snow-1), which is one of the most sought-after varieties in the entire Indian Head cent series. While less dramatic than the FS-101, this FS-102 doubled die is still a collectible attributed variety for specialists. The "Closed 3" refers to the style of the digit 3 in the date, where the ends of the 3 nearly touch, as opposed to the "Open 3" variety where they are more widely spaced.
