Description
Judd-325, Pollock-377, is the first in an extensive series of 1863 dime patterns (J-325 through J-334) that represents one of the most thorough design studies for any denomination during the Civil War. This proof pattern tests a specific combination of obverse design and reverse arrangement for a proposed new dime, incorporating elements related to the postage currency crisis. With small coins disappearing from circulation and postage stamps being used as money, the dime denomination was at the center of proposals to create practical small-change coinage. Struck in silver with proof finish. Cataloged as PCGS #60482.
Rarity Notes
Rarity-6 to R-7. Approximately 10-15 specimens known. The 1863 dime pattern series is one of the most extensive for any Civil War denomination.
