Description
The 1795 Liberty Cap Cent - Jefferson Head, Plain Edge was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a cent in the Liberty Cap Cents 1793-1796 series. With a mintage of 10, this is an extremely rare issue — ranked 2nd of 4 mint variants by mintage, with less than 1% of production. The obverse features Liberty facing right with a Phrygian cap on a pole behind her head, symbolizing freedom and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT and 1/100 of a dollar. Lettered Edge and Plain Edge varieties exist. Multiple Sheldon die varieties cataloged. One of the more available dates in the series. The Philadelphia Mint, America's oldest coin-making facility, has struck coins continuously since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $0 to $241K depending on grade and condition.
