1794 Liberty Cap Right Half Cent Unusual Die Crack and Tapered Planchet

Description

An unusual die crack and tapered planchet are visible on this 1794 Liberty Cap Right half cent. An unusual die crack is a crack in the die that follows an atypical path, often running through design elements rather than from rim to rim. A tapered planchet is a planchet error where the metal blank was rolled unevenly, resulting in one side being thicker than the other. The die crack runs from just above 9 o'clock on the rim, through Liberty's bow, and into her hair. The planchet is tapered towards the right side of the coin with extreme weakness being visible on both sides. The 1794 Liberty Cap Right half cent was the first year of the redesigned half cent with Liberty facing right.
