1960-D Atypical Die Clash ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-24

Description

Two separate die clash events produced this atypical clash on a 1960-D small date Lincoln Memorial Cent. Evidence appears as two marks below the horizontal bar in the last T of STATES, left by Lincoln's jacket fold during clashes when obverse and reverse dies struck without a planchet. Die chips in the O of ONE and T of CENT provide additional identification. The small date variety itself is a significant collectible. Atypical clashes differ from normal ones in that design transfer occurs at unexpected locations or angles. Designated ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-24 as the twenty-fourth cataloged atypical clash for this issue.
