1960-D Atypical Die Clash ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-20

Description

ADC-1c-1960D(SD)-20; Stage “B” & “C” This is an atypical 1960D small date Lincoln cent that shows a die clash above Lincoln’s head. The overlay shows the relative position of the dies when they clashed. This coin is in the private collection of Bob Piazza. 1 5 / The pictures above provide a close up view of the actual clash marks and the position of the dies when they clashed. The below picture shows the clash mark left by the bottom of the letters in AMERICA. Notice the mint mark does have a RPM. Stage “C” This stage was found by Dr. Dave Elliott. The clash marks have faded a bit, but are still present. The reverse die shows no signs of clash marks. The obverse die has developed two die chips; one between the B and E of LIBERTY (BIE) and the other die chip is located in the lower part of the R in LIBERTY. Notice the die scratch in between the R and E in LIBERTY. Also noted is the die scratch above the S in PLURIBUS on the reverse die.
