Description

Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling. The doubling shows above the top step of the center steps and on TIC of MONTICELLO on this 2025 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel. Twenty-nine WDDRs cataloged for a coin barely one year into circulation demonstrates the speed and thoroughness of modern variety research, where collectors begin searching new issues almost immediately after release. Die markers on the obverse include a die gouge on the I of IN. The reverse carries a die gouge between ER of AMERICA, a die dot below the small right window, and a die gouge above the T of CENTS. The tilted hub mechanism creates doubling that varies in direction and intensity across different areas of the die, which is why the step area and the MONTICELLO inscription show the effect while other regions may appear normal. Cross-referenced as 2025-P WDDR-029 and attributed by Brian A. Ribar. Felix Schlag's Monticello, with its columned portico, stepped entrance, and detailed lettering, continues to yield new doubled die varieties each year as collectors maintain systematic examination of current Jefferson Nickel production.
