Description

From the current year of issue, this 2025 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel doubled die reverse demonstrates that die variety production continues unabated in modern Mint operations. Attributed by Brian A. Ribar, the variety exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the left side of the letters NTICEL of MONTICELLO and inside the large semicircular window. Class VIII doubling results from an angular tilt of the hub during die production, producing rotational spread that affects different portions of the design at varying intensities. Twenty-two documented DDRs for a current-year coin reflects the speed with which modern variety researchers catalog new discoveries. The obverse carries a die dot inside the upper loop of the second 2 of the date. Reverse markers include a die gouge above the R of AMERICA, a die gouge inside the C of AMERICA, a die gouge to the right of the left arch, and two die gouges between EL of MONTICELLO. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2025-P WDDR-022, this variety highlights the continuing vitality of die variety research on Felix Schlag's classic Monticello reverse design.
