Description

Discovered by Brian A. Ribar on a 2025 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, WDDR-021 presents Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the letters NT of MONTICELLO, the left inside edge of the long left window, and above the left side of the center steps. The distribution across both the building name and architectural features maps the geometry of the hub tilt across the reverse die. Obverse die markers include a die gouge to the right of the E in WE, while the reverse carries three gouges: above the M of AMERICA, below the B of PLURIBUS, and above the first O of MONTICELLO. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2025-P WDDR-021, this variety shares the Class VIII mechanism common to many modern Jefferson Nickel varieties but distinguishes itself through its specific combination of affected elements and die gouge distribution. The presence of an obverse die gouge near WE provides an attribution aid that many reverse-only doubled dies lack, enabling collectors to begin examination from the obverse before confirming reverse doubling.
