Description

Among the most recently cataloged Jefferson nickel varieties, the 2025 WDDR-017 was attributed by Brian A. Ribar and exhibits very nice Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the large semicircular window and on the tops of columns 3 and 4 of Monticello. Tilted hub doubling occurs when the hub is slightly angled during impression into the working die, producing a characteristic angular displacement of design elements. The reverse provides four die markers for authentication: a die gouge between IC of MONTICELLO, a die scratch above F of FIVE, a die inside the first U of UNUM, and a die gouge to the lower left of the small right window. No obverse die markers were noted. This variety is cataloged under Wexler designation 2025-P WDDR-017. Current-year doubled dies attract immediate collector attention because the coins remain readily available in circulation and from bank rolls, giving cherrypickers an active opportunity to locate examples before the issue year ends and specimens become harder to source in quantity.
