Description

Among the earliest doubled die varieties cataloged for the 2025 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson Nickel, WDDR-009 was discovered by Brian A. Ribar and exhibits Class VIII tilted hub doubling on Monticello's architectural elements. The spread is visible on the left side of columns one and two, on the right side of the center door frame, and on the upper portions of both doors flanking the center door. This concentration on structural features amplifies the visibility of hub displacement. Reverse die markers include a die gouge below the B of PLURIBUS and a die gouge inside the lower portion of the long left window. The obverse carries no noted markers. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2025-P WDDR-009, this variety extends the pattern of Class VIII tilted hub doubling characterizing the modern Jefferson Nickel series, where Monticello's columned portico and detailed fenestration provide ideal surfaces for capturing the angular displacement inherent in this doubling mechanism. Collectors of current-year varieties will find this among the more accessible 2025 nickel doubled dies.
