Description

Discovered by Brian A. Ribar, the 2025 Philadelphia Jefferson Nickel WDDR-008 shows Class VIII tilted hub doubling on the large semicircular window, left side of column 3, upper right corner of the center door frame, above the center steps, and on the letters NT of MONTICELLO. This broad distribution of affected elements — spanning a window, column, door, steps, and partial legend — indicates substantial angular displacement during hubbing. The obverse is additionally listed as WDDO-002, pairing this doubled reverse with a doubled obverse on the same die combination. Reverse markers include a die gouge to the lower right of the long left window, a die gouge on column 1, and a die gouge in the field to the upper right of the dome. Cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2025-P WDDR-008. The dual WDDR and WDDO classification means collectors may find doubled dies on both sides — a desirable combination. Eight doubled die reverses within the 2025 production year demonstrates the rapid pace of modern variety research in identifying hub anomalies.
