2025 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

First cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2025 Philadelphia Mint Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter, WDDR-001 shows slight doubling to the northeast in the hair curls behind Rubin's ear and on the top of her scarf. The reverse design honors astronomer Vera Rubin, whose work on galaxy rotation curves provided pivotal evidence for the existence of dark matter. Notably, the obverse of this same die is independently listed as WDDO-001, displaying strong tripling below the eyelid — making this a dual-sided doubled die where both faces carry hub doubling from potentially different hubbing events. The tripling on the obverse indicates at least three hub impressions contributed to the final die surface, a more extreme case than standard doubling. As the very first WDDR and WDDO cataloged for the 2025 Dr. Vera Rubin Quarter, these entries represent the earliest documented hub doubling for the issue.
