Description
The 2025 (P) Althea Gibson Quarter is a quarter produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the American Women Quarters (2022 - 2025) series. The U.S. Mint produced 117.2 million examples, making this ranked 11th of 15 mint variants by mintage, with 11% of production. The obverse features George Washington facing right in a new dynamic portrait by Laura Gardin Fraser (her original 1931 design, finally adopted 90 years later) and the reverse displays unique designs honoring prominent American women who shaped the nation's history. First African American to win a Grand Slam tennis title and compete at Wimbledon, breaking tennis's color barrier in the 1950s. Final year of the program, featuring Ida B. Wells, Dr. Vera Rubin, Stacey Park Milbern, Juliette Gordon Low, and Harriet Tubman. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792.
