Description

The third cataloged Class VIII tilted hub DDR among the 2023 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson nickel varieties attributed by Brian A. Ribar, the WDDR-025 shows doubling on the letters N, T, and I of MONTICELLO, the left side of the center door frame, and the lower right side of column three. This concentration on specific letters of the building's name combined with adjacent architectural elements places the WDDR-025 between the broad WDDR-008 and facade-focused WDDR-018 in affected area. On the obverse, a die gouge near the rim between IN and GOD provides the primary marker. The reverse carries three die gouges around the S of CENTS: one above N of CENTS, one to the left of the lower S, and one inside the lower portion of S. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2023-P WDDR-025, this variety can be reliably distinguished from other 2023-P DDRs by checking the CENTS area for the distinctive cluster of die gouges around S, a localized grouping that serves as a quick visual fingerprint for this specific working die.
