Description

Also attributed by Brian A. Ribar, the 2023 Philadelphia Mint Jefferson nickel WDDR-018 presents Class VIII tilted hub doubling concentrated on Monticello's upper architectural features: the large semicircular window above the steps, the center door, column three, the door to the right of center, and the E of MONTICELLO. Where the WDDR-008 spreads across inscriptions and building sides, the WDDR-018 focuses on the central facade elements, giving it a distinctly different visual signature. No significant obverse markers have been noted. The reverse carries a die gouge between the first T and A of STATES, a die gouge below the T of MONTICELLO, and a die chip on the dome, providing three precise pickup points. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2023-P WDDR-018, this variety documents how tilted hub doubling on the semicircular window and center door area produces a recognizable effect, as these symmetrical elements reveal asymmetric displacement clearly. The die chip on Monticello's dome adds a deterioration marker that helps pinpoint specimens to a specific period in this die's working life.
