Description

Strong and visually appealing, the 2022-D Lincoln Shield Cent WDDR-005 delivers pronounced extra thickness on UNITED and the designers' initials, with lighter doubling across the rest of the USA inscription. The Wexler Team attributed this Denver-mint regular strike, which also carries a constellation of die gouges for confirmation: on the obverse, gouges appear above the first 2 in the date, above the tail of the 2, and on the shoulder far above VDB. The reverse contributes additional markers with a die gouge to the right of U in UNITED and another to the right of the right side of the scroll. This concentration of obverse and reverse die markers, paired with the strong doubling on UNITED, makes the WDDR-005 one of the more collectible modern Lincoln cent doubled die reverses. Variety hunters sorting through 2022-D cent rolls should focus first on the bold extra thickness in the UNITED inscription.
