Description

Discovered by Edward Stewart and attributed by the Wexler Team as 2020-P 25c VI WDDR-008, this doubled die reverse on the Salt River Bay National Park Quarter features a partial extra root visible to the left of the knotted upper root in the reverse design. The secondary root impression creates a ghostly parallel element beside the primary knot, providing a clear pickup point for collectors examining the organic details of the Salt River Bay scene. This business strike was produced at Philadelphia as part of the America the Beautiful quarter series, which featured five new national park and site designs annually from 2010 through 2021. The Salt River Bay reverse depicts the underwater ecosystem of the U.S. Virgin Islands site, with intricate mangrove root structures whose fine detail makes them susceptible to recording even subtle hub displacement. No significant die markers have been documented on either side, meaning attribution relies on identifying the extra root element adjacent to the knotted formation. Collectors working through 2020 quarter rolls should focus on the root cluster in the upper portion of the underwater scene where the duplication is most apparent.
