Description

Commemorating the defense of Guam during World War II, the 2019 War in the Pacific National Historical Park quarter carries a reverse depicting American forces landing on the beaches of Asan during the July 1944 liberation from Japanese occupation. This first cataloged DDR for the issue documents a hub misalignment during die preparation at the Philadelphia Mint. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2019-P 25c GU WDDR-001, the GU code designates Guam, one of five U.S. territories in the ATB program. The War in the Pacific National Historical Park preserves sites associated with the 1944 battle, including the Asan and Agat invasion beaches. As the first documented DDR for this design, WDDR-001 carries particular significance for collectors seeking first-in-sequence varieties. The landing scene — soldiers wading through surf toward the beach — presents detailed figurative and landscape elements where doubling can be detected under magnification, especially along the contours of military equipment and the horizon line.
