2019 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-039

Description

Aaron Laramee discovered this 2019-P Jefferson Nickel variety showing Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling below the upper right portion of the door frame on Monticello's center door above the steps. Where many 2019 DDR varieties concentrate their doubling centrally or to the left, this WDDR-039 distinguishes itself through its rightward emphasis on the door frame architecture. The obverse carries a die gouge on the upper left portion of Jefferson's forehead along with a die dot on his collar. Reverse die markers include two die breaks — one on the upper right portion of the pediment triangle and another on the left edge of the building — plus a series of die gouges scattered through the field above the roof on the right side of the building. The presence of two separate die breaks indicates this die experienced substantial deterioration, and coins struck from later impressions may show more advanced break development. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2019-P WDDR-039, this Philadelphia-mint regular strike complements the broader family of 2019 Jefferson Nickel tilted hub varieties.
