Description

Class VIII doubling above and below the upper portion of the door frame on the center door above the steps characterizes this 2019-P Jefferson Nickel, where a tilted or distorted hub created directional displacement on Monticello's central architectural feature. Cross-referenced as Wexler 2019-P WDDR-020 and attributed by Brian Sims, the variety demonstrates Class VIII hub doubling that produces localized displacement rather than uniform spread. The center door frame of Monticello has proven a recurring diagnostic zone across multiple Jefferson Nickel DDR varieties due to its precise geometric lines. Obverse die markers include die gouges below and to the left of the O of GOD. On the reverse, a die crack in the field to the left of the building and a die dot below the E of CENTS offer secondary authentication. The die crack extending into the open field beside Monticello is particularly diagnostic because field cracks create visible raised lines against smooth background that are immediately apparent under magnification. The twentieth cataloged WDDR for the 2019-P nickel reflects continuing variety research depth on current-production Jefferson Nickels.
