Description

As the first cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2019-P Jefferson nickel, DDR-001 presents a light southward spread appearing as an extra top on the left central doorway roof of Monticello. Cataloged under UVC-1863 and DMR-002, this variety is documented across three die stages. Stage A shows both reverse and obverse in early die state. Stage B is identified by a die depression in the field west of the building, placing the reverse and obverse at early-to-mid die state. Stage C is late die state but remains unconfirmed. The Monticello reverse, depicting Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate, features architectural details that serve as sensitive indicators of hub doubling, and the doorway roof area provides a compact zone where even light displacement becomes detectable. The die depression west of the building in Stage B represents localized die metal fatigue that developed during the die's working life.
