2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-011

Description

Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware features a great blue heron standing amid marsh grasses on its America the Beautiful quarter reverse, and this eleventh doubled die reverse for the 2015-P issue shows strong spread to the southeast, manifesting as extra blades of grass in the upper grass strip. Cataloged under VarietyVista identifiers UVC-2233 and DMR-005, the strong classification indicates doubling visible without difficulty under moderate magnification. The grass elements on the Bombay Hook design provide fine linear features that are particularly responsive to hubbing displacement — each blade of grass shifts as a discrete element, making doubled grass areas look convincingly like additional vegetation rather than a manufacturing anomaly. Bombay Hook NWR encompasses over 16,000 acres of tidal salt marsh along the Delaware Bay, and Phebe Hemphill's quarter design captures the refuge's role as a critical habitat along the Atlantic Flyway. The America the Beautiful series (2010-2021) featured five new reverse designs annually, and the constant rotation of designs meant each new die carried independent potential for hubbing misalignment during its manufacture.
