Description

Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 25c DE WDDR-004 documents a doubled die reverse on the 2015 Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge quarter from the America the Beautiful series, struck at Philadelphia. The doubling appears as an extra blade of grass on the right side of the middle grass strip between the great egret and the great blue heron, a diagnostic that requires magnification but becomes repeatable once located. Six die markers enable positive attribution. Obverse markers include a die scratch extending from above the right side of N in IN toward the southeast; a second scratch from the right side of D in GOD toward the top left corner of the second T in TRUST; and a die chip to the left of the top of R in TRUST. On the reverse, feeder finger damage below the lowest grass strip serves as a mechanical artifact from the coin's passage through the press feeder. Collectors building variety sets within the America the Beautiful series find WDDR-004 cleanly attributable, distinguishable from companion WDDR-005 by its unique marker profile and the right-side position of the extra grass blade.
