Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 25c DE WDDR-018, this doubled die reverse on the 2015 Philadelphia Mint Bombay Hook National Park quarter manifests as an extra blade of grass on the right side of the middle grass strip between the great egret and the great blue heron. Slight doubling also appears below the right end of the upper grass strip between the two wading birds. The Bombay Hook reverse design depicts the Delaware refuge's wetland habitat, and the fine grass detail surrounding the birds provides ample opportunity for hub doubling to produce visible extra elements. Obverse die markers include a small die gouge between the E and D in UNITED and a small die chip on the base of the bust to the east-northeast of the designer's initials. On the reverse, die chips can be found below the heron's eye. These secondary markers help distinguish this variety from similar doubled dies on the same date. The clad quarter was part of the America the Beautiful series (2010-2021), and with 166-plus doubled die reverses cataloged for the 2015 Homestead issue alone, the ATB program has proven extraordinarily fertile ground for die variety specialists.
