2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-011

Description

Documented by the Wexler Team as 2015-P 25-cent DE WDDR-011, this America the Beautiful Quarter doubled die reverse shows doubling manifesting as extra blades of grass below the right end of the upper grass strip, positioned between the great egret and the great blue heron depicted on the Delaware quarter's Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge reverse. The specificity of this doubling location — additional grass blades in a narrow zone between two distinct bird species — illustrates how hub misalignment during die preparation can create secondary design elements that appear to be intentional additions to the composition. Die markers include a small die gouge south of the E in LIBERTY on the obverse and a die chip below the eye of the great blue heron on the reverse — this latter marker being particularly useful because it is located near the primary doubling area, allowing collectors to confirm both features simultaneously under magnification.
