Description

The 2015-P Bombay Hook National Park Quarter WDDR-039 is cross-referenced as CONECA 7-R-VIII and Wexler 2015-P 25¢ DE WDDR-039. The Bombay Hook reverse depicts great egrets and great blue herons in a wetland setting, and on WDDR-039 the doubling appears below the right end of the upper grass strip between those two birds — a localized shift in the vegetation strip that defines the variety. The obverse die carries a die chip inside the lower J of the designer's initials with cracks extending east and west across the base of the bust; a small die gouge to the right of the top of the A in QUARTER; a small die gouge to the right of the Y in LIBERTY; and a small die gouge inside the U in UNITED. On the reverse, two die chips appear on the beak below the heron's eye; a die gouge sits above the horizon to the left of the neck; and two die gouges appear between the K in HOOK and the head feathers. The bust crack extending from the initials chip provides a die stage indicator, and CONECA 7-R-VIII places this variety in a well-defined hub rotation category. America the Beautiful variety collectors will find WDDR-039 an interesting Delaware state entry.
