2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-025

Description

Displaying strong doubling on the right end of the upper grass strip between the great egret and the great blue heron, with light doubling visible above the center grass strip just below, this Bombay Hook quarter WDDR-025 offers one of the more visually prominent doubled die effects among the Delaware refuge's many cataloged varieties. Cross-referenced as CONECA 2-R-VIII and cataloged under Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 25' DE WDDR-025, the Class VIII tilted hub doubling produced displacement strong enough to clearly extend the grass strip beyond its intended boundary. On the obverse, a light die scratch runs west-southwest to east-northeast below the second R in QUARTER. No significant reverse die markers were noted beyond the doubling. The strong spread distinguishes WDDR-025 from varieties like WDDR-016 and WDDR-029 that show only light to moderate displacement on similar grass elements. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, located along the Delaware Bay, encompasses over 16,000 acres of tidal salt marsh, and the quarter's reverse design captures this landscape through the detailed wetland scene that has proven to be a rich source of doubled die discoveries.
