2015 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-021
ErrorDescription
Attributed by the Wexler Team on the 2015 Philadelphia Mint Bombay Hook National Park Quarter, WDDR-021 presents doubling as extra blades of grass on the right side of the middle grass strip between the great egret and the great blue heron. This placement within the wildlife imagery creates a variety where doubling enhances botanical detail rather than affecting lettering. Two die stages are documented for each side. Obverse Stage A shows no significant markers, while Stage B develops multiple die chips above and to the left of designer's initials JF. Reverse Stage A lacks significant markers, but Stage B produces die chips on the back of the beak and below the great blue heron's eye, introducing biological-feature diagnostics unique to this wildlife design. Cross-referenced as Wexler Variety ID 2015-P 25¢ DE WDDR-021, this variety demonstrates how the America the Beautiful program's naturalistic reverses created doubled dies where spread integrates into landscape imagery, requiring careful comparison to reference images for identification.
