2015 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-046
Error
Description
Cataloged by VarietyVista with die identifiers UVC-2147 and DMR-047, this 2015 America the Beautiful Quarter DDR-046 displays light spread north as an extra pump and window in window R3, along with westward spread producing an extra window in the same R3 position — a localized doubling pattern where the hub displacement created visible secondary impressions within the architectural window details of the quarter's reverse design. Three die stages are documented: Stage A at early die state (EDS, unconfirmed); Stage B showing depressions along both the upper left and upper right roof with the obverse in early-to-mid die state (EMDS); and Stage C at late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The roof depressions in Stage B serve as progressive die deterioration markers that help collectors determine which die state their specimen represents independently of the doubling features. The America the Beautiful Quarter program (2010-2021) featured five different national park or site reverse designs each year, struck in copper-nickel clad composition — 8.33% nickel over a pure copper core — weighing 5.67 grams with a diameter of 24.26 mm. John Flanagan's Washington portrait, as modified by William Cousins, appears on the obverse. The architectural window detail in the reverse design provides particularly diagnostic doubling signatures because windows are geometric elements with sharp edges that clearly reveal even slight hub displacement, making the extra pump and window features in R3 identifiable under moderate magnification. The combination of both northward and westward spread components indicates the hub displacement vector was oriented toward the northwest rather than along a single cardinal direction.
