Description

Documented by VarietyVista under UVC-2128 and DMR-030, this 2015 America the Beautiful Quarter shows strong spread with light hubbing in a southwest direction concentrated in window L2 of the Homestead National Monument reverse design. Three die stages track the die's working life: Stage A with both reverse and obverse at early die state, Stage B at mid-die state (unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (unconfirmed). The "strong spread with light hubbing" designation indicates an interesting combination — the displacement between hub impressions was substantial enough to produce visible doubling, but the second impression was lighter than normal, leaving a fainter secondary image. This can occur when the hubbing press does not apply full pressure on the final impression, or when the die is partially withdrawn before the impression is complete. The Homestead National Monument of America Quarter honors the site in Beatrice, Nebraska, where Daniel Freeman filed one of the first homestead claims under the Homestead Act of 1862. The cabin depicted on the reverse contains multiple windows that have proven valuable for doubled die attribution — their rectangular geometry provides clean edges where even minor displacement becomes detectable. Window L2 (the second window from the left) sits in a position on the die where southwest-directed hub shift produces clear diagonal displacement of the window frame, making DDR-029 attributable under moderate magnification.
