First documented trail die reverse for the 2014 Philadelphia Mint Lincoln Shield Cent, this variety was discovered by Joe Koelling and cataloged by Trail Dies. At Stage B, the obverse is MDS with a faint diagonal die scratch running from Lincoln's chin down to the left side of the date. The reverse is MDS with no significant markers noted. Trail dies result from lateral die movement during the striking process, which drags metal across the coin's surface to create trail lines extending from design elements. The faint diagonal die scratch from chin to date on the obverse provides the primary attribution marker for identifying this specific die pair.
