Description

Unlike typical die clashes where obverse and reverse dies meet squarely, atypical die clashes involve misaligned or tilted contact that produces unusual transfer patterns not matching the standard design layout. ADC-1C-2014D-01 holds the distinction of being the first documented die clash of any type discovered on 2014 Lincoln Shield Cents, with the added significance of originating from the Denver Mint. Cataloged by MadDieClashes, this specimen resides in the collection of Joe Koelling, a known contributor to die clash documentation. Atypical clashes on Lincoln Cents are less commonly reported than their typical counterparts, as the unusual angle of die contact can produce subtle or unexpected marks that escape initial detection. The Lincoln Shield Cent design, introduced in 2010, features a Union shield reverse that produces distinctive clash transfer patterns different from the earlier Memorial and Bicentennial designs.
