Cataloged by the Wexler Team as 2010-D 1-cent WDDR-001, this Lincoln Shield Cent variety displays extra thickness on the designer's initials LB — the monogram of Lyndall Bass, who created the Union Shield reverse introduced in 2010 as the permanent replacement for the Lincoln Memorial design used since 1959. The LB initials appear in small lettering on the lower reverse, where even subtle hub displacement produces detectable broadening of the fine letter strokes. A complementary obverse die marker strengthens the attribution: a small die chip can be found on the top left of the shield, north of the R in PLURIBUS — a tiny raised bump on struck coins corresponding to a fragment lost from the die surface, providing an independent confirmation visible at moderate magnification. The 2010-D Lincoln Shield Cent was struck at the Denver Mint in copper-plated zinc composition, continuing Victor David Brenner's obverse portrait.
