2009 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

Doubling at the intersection of the second ray clockwise from the Statue of Liberty's head and her right arm marks this fourth cataloged doubled die reverse for the 2009 Philadelphia Mint John Tyler Presidential Dollar. The Presidential Dollar series, launched in 2007 to honor each U.S. president in order of service, featured a common reverse depicting the Statue of Liberty designed by Don Everhart. Tyler, the tenth president who assumed office after William Henry Harrison's death in 1841, appears on the obverse. Die markers for attribution include a small die gouge above the left side of the S in TRUST and a die chip just below the chin on the obverse, while the reverse carries a die gouge to the left of the first S in STATES. These markers remain constant across all specimens from this die and provide reliable identification separate from the doubling itself. Attributed by the Wexler Team under Wexler Variety ID: 2009-P $1 JT WDDR-004, no other cross-references are currently known. The Statue of Liberty reverse with its radiating rays provides geometric reference points that make DDR identification particularly straightforward on this design.
