2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-006
Error
Description
Among the most visually dramatic doubled die reverses in the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial series, DDR-006 displays strong spread appearing as a partial extra index finger above the normal index finger on the Formative Years reverse — the Richard Masters and Jim Licaretz design depicting young Lincoln reading by firelight. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-2619 with die-marriage reference DMR-007, this die is paired with DDO-002 on the obverse, creating a die marriage carrying doubled die interest on both sides. Four die stages have been documented. Stage A shows the reverse in early die state with the DDO-002 obverse also in early die state. Stage B exhibits a light die crack across the mallet and a light die crack on the forehead, both in early-to-mid die state. Stage C reaches mid-die state, though confirmation remains pending. Stage D advances to late die state, also awaiting confirmation. Four documented stages represent unusually thorough tracking for a modern cent variety, reflecting sustained researcher attention to a doubled die whose bold extra finger makes it one of the most recognizable varieties from the entire four-design Bicentennial program.
