Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-2770 and DMR-044, this 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Cent DDR-041 presents a strong spread to the east manifesting as an extra log end at position #8 from the bottom of the log cabin — the numbered log end identification system used to reference specific features on the Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky reverse design. The eastward spread direction means the secondary hub impression was displaced horizontally to the right, creating a clearly visible doubled log end that appears as an additional structural element alongside the primary cabin wall contour. Four documented die stages track this die's service history: Stage A is early die state (EDS, unconfirmed); Stage B at early-to-mid die state (EMDS) shows a die crack on the cabin roof above the window on the reverse and two die cracks on Lincoln's forehead on the obverse; Stage C is mid-die-state (MDS, unconfirmed); and Stage D is late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). The EMDS forehead cracks and roof crack in Stage B provide the most reliable attribution markers for determining die state, as these progressive features would have grown more prominent through subsequent stages. The 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Cent commemorated the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth with four rotating reverse designs representing periods of his life. The Early Childhood reverse was designed by Richard Masters and sculpted by Jim Licaretz, depicting the Kentucky log cabin where Lincoln spent his formative years.
