2009 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-039
Error
Description
Documented on the 2009 Philadelphia Lincoln Bicentennial Early Childhood cent, this doubled die reverse displays a strong spread toward the southeast that creates extra log ends on logs number 9, 10, and 11 counted from the bottom of the log cabin design. The Early Childhood reverse by Richard Masters depicts the Kentucky cabin where Lincoln was born, and the horizontal log construction provides abundant parallel lines where hub doubling produces clearly visible extra endpoints. Attributed by VarietyVista with die classification UVC-2768 and marker reference DMR-042, the die was documented at Stage A where the reverse is in early die state and a die crack on the forehead indicates early-to-mid die state progression, while Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. The die crack on Lincoln's forehead on the obverse provides a secondary diagnostic for authenticating this die pair. The 2009 bicentennial cent program featured four distinct reverse designs commemorating Lincoln's two-hundredth birthday, and the log cabin design proved especially productive for doubled die reverse discoveries due to its richly detailed horizontal construction.
